The week just keeps getting better and things are heating up here on Gelati’s Scoop and The G-ZONE. I have a self-published novel for you here in “Days of Iron”. The author is from Australia, the work is interesting to say the least, and the ending is well, let’s hope there is more to come. Here is the synopsis and a little something about the author from :“In the future, genetic engineering has created three species of humans. Homo sapiens – the Sapes – are the masters. The Siria [...]
Maddy Hawthorn has lived her entire life in a spaceship called a slowboat. Two hundred years prior, Maddy’s ancestors had left Earth on this ship in hopes of creating a better life by colonizing on a new planet. Although she is human, she is not a member of the Elite; the upper human class who maintains control of the Universe through a supercomputer called Zeus. Maddy is a Sape, which puts her in the middle of the social hierarchy. Igil Hoo is part of a slave race of human beings which was ge [...]
First and foremost let me say that the futuristic science fiction/mystery/thriller aspect of this novel had my vote from the very beginning because I am at heart a science fiction nut and I wasn't disappointed. I loved the blend of modern realism, with the social injustices with which we live on a daily basis but no one wants to talk about, and futuristic overtones because it's set in a time when one would think that those same social injustices and difficulties are things which we would've surp [...]
I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. The protagonist, Maddy Hawthorn, is a Sape (or Homo sapien) who has spent all her life living in space on-board a Slowboat called the Endeavour. She is kidnapped by Igil Hoo, a Helot – who is a part of the bottom-class species better known as the slave race. Because of the violence perpetrated against her by upper-class members of her own race known as the Elite, Igil presumes that she is a wise choice to aid him in a terror [...]
Days of Iron is set in a sci-fi future where two extra human races have been genetically engineered to fill some needs. The helots are slaves and the sirians, who live in the harsh conditions of the Sirus star system. The Sapes, homo sapians, are in charge, though some are more in charge than others. So, some of the helots don't like being slaves, as you would expect and set about fixing the situation. Throw in a sirian and a sape and you have what could be micorcosm of the greater universe.Excep [...]
This is a very intriguing science fiction novel. The main character has the type of personality that forces people to sit up and pay attention. The plot is unique and fast-paced. The author combines many factors to form a very intricate and detailed plot. There are many questions left unanswered, the reader will hope this is deliberate, as it may mean that this novel will turn into a series! The reader will find the cruelty and cold-bloodedness of the regime horrifying and a terrific antagonist. [...]
