Do you want your children to think? Learn how to decipher a problem? Cultivate their imigination? Amateur sleuhs David and Derek, two twins as opposite as they can be, accompanied by their assistant Mickey, code named CAT, are off to discover the mystery behind Christine's cell phone (she swears she put it in her backpack at school buty it vanished) Being an adult mystery writer - THE CASE OF THE MISSING CELL PHONE - book 1 in an upcoming series- is all a mystery should be - a lot of clues - a f [...]
I received this book free through first reads. The first thing that struck me about this chapter book is that the print is very large and easy to read, there are not too many words on each page and the chapters are quite short. I know my boys feel a sense of achievement if they have managed to read quite a number of pages or chapters in one sitting, so with this book they should be able to do that. The story features Davey and Derek who are twin brothers and along with a friend set out to become [...]

Do you and your kids love a good mystery? I absolutely love it. "Davey & Derek Junior Detectives: The Case of the Missing Cell Phone" is a wonderfully written mystery book with interesting twists that will leave you wanting to know what happens next. Love the main protagonists, Davey and Derek, the twin brothers who are as different as day and night. I'm sure kids their age can relate with them and have fun solving the mystery together along them and their friend Mickey aka "CAT". Great for [...]
An entertaining and well-written book, which was a fun read. I look forward to reading more of the boys' adventures.
Davey & Derek Donato are 5th graders in Linden Middle school who have aspirations of becoming detectives after reading of detectives in some books they have. It isn't long until they have a real live case in school as a result of a young sixth grader, Christine Sanders losing her cell phone. Christine stated that she left it in her backpack and someone stole it. But who? That is where the remarkable twins, Davey & Derek, and their young friend and assistant - Mickey who is also known as [...]
n intriguing mystery for young readers! A must have!ByDeanie Humphrys-Dunneon May 19, 2015Format: Kindle EditionDavey and Derek are ten year-old twins, who are budding detectives. In this story, they work together with their friend, Mickey, AKA "Cat" to solve the case of a stolen cell phone. Readers will love Davey and Derek's different personalities. One is studious and detail oriented, while the other is a day dreamer, who never seems to concentrate on the task at hand. They work hard to solve [...]
Spina's first book reminded me of Enid Blyton - if she were writing about lost cell phones instead of erm treasure? Tea? I confess, it's been a while since I last read the Famous Five, but I got the same feeling of kids being kids, yet going on all sorts of fabulous adventures. In this case, the kids are a bunch of boys helping a sixth grader (gasp) girl (double gasp) find her missing phone. Which turns out not to be so much missing as much as wait, that'd be spoiling the fun. Read the book and [...]
Great book won in a giveaway. The twins Derek and Davey will have young readers engrossed from the outset of this super modern take on a classic mystery tale with clues and red herrings a plenty. A well deserved five star rating and I look forward to more adventures of these delightful kids.
“The Case of the Missing Cell Phone” is the first in the Davey and Derek junior detective series, where two twin boys are trying to solve the mystery of a missing expensive cell phone. I love the fact that this story is for both boys and girls. It makes readers think, act, and discover. It’s also very engaging and entertaining, with an emphasis on teaching superb life lessons in a very delicate way. While reading this story, children are encouraged to communicate and learn how to crack pro [...]
My son, Michael aged 11 years old, and I read this book together. The Case of the Missing Cell Phone is the first in the Davey and Derek junior detective series and it really appealed to Michael. He loved the idea of two twin boys taking on a mystery and being able to solve it. The fact that this book is very modern and has an expensive cell phone at the center of its story delighted him. My Michael can certainly relate to the anxiety of losing such an expensive piece of technology and the conse [...]
Being a fan of good mystery stories, I was keen to read Janice Spina’s new book series starring Davey and Derek. ‘The Case of the Missing Cell Phone’ was the perfect way to start their detective careers and earn the trust and respect of their peers at school. I was easily able to picture each scene through the eyes of the young detectives, including the nervous reactions of those who were interviewed. Each turn of the page carried new clues, new excitement and new adventure, as Davey, Dere [...]
