I saw Phillis Levin present at a panel on the sonnet. Was impressed and tracked down the book. Her essay/intro is valuable and the selection (huge) trustworthy. Henry Cole and Hopkins are my favorites.
This book is an anthology that celebrates that most vigorous of literary forms, the Sonnet. This is a great introduction to the form. I assigned it as the main textbook in a Sonnet Writing Workshop class I taught, and I know I made the right choice. There's a superb and comprehensive introduction that really clarifies the history and customs of the form. There are also some very useful appendices that illustrate some of the more familiar, and less familiar, sonnet types (i.e English, Italian, French, curtal, and more).
